Games and Level Design
Scrap Hunters
A university Collaborative project, my role was Mechanic and Level Designer, along with a couple other students. This game was made in 8 weeks, alongside another module that was required by the university. The game is a Vertical Slice. There were around 20 of us in the group overall. Most of my time was spent in photoshop or Unreal engine, making diagrams for enemies and mechanics, or blocking and meshing out levels.

Scrap Hunters is a four player co-operative extraction shooter, each player has a unique class and a matching Ability. The game is just a demo, and it features one tutorial level and one full level. The players must complete objectives and defeat enemies to upgrade their abilites and weapons and progress to further levels.
The team wanted to create an extraction shooter that could be played fully locally, and how we could design a game and level that accompies this.
My jobs included:
- Making the Behaviour Diagrams for the enemies
- Doing research and creating documents for the Visual Effects
- Blocking and Meshing out the tutorial level.
- Balancing Combat Encounters in the level
For the game I planned and created diagrams for the enemies, these included the main behaviours for each. Basic stats were also included, as well as what happens once the enemy dies. I worked closely with the tech and art teams whilst making these. I was also responsible for the tutorial level's blockout, using the map that was already created by another designer.
I also took the game by myself to testing events, gather information about the balancing of the Characters, Enemies and levels.
This project really helped me find out what its like working in a team of over 20 people, as well as managing deadlines for multiple pieces of work at once.
This project received a First for its quality in gameplay and design, from Staffordshire University.
